Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month Kicks Off on August 26 at Old Forge Brewing Company in Danville!
8/15/2025(Danville, PA) - September 2025 will mark the 11th year local organizations and community volunteers have joined forces to help fight pediatric cancer and raise funds to benefit ThinkBIG® Pediatric Cancer Fund.
This year, the Central & Northeastern PA Pediatric Cancer Awareness Committee is excited to kick-off their month-long calendar of events back at Old Forge Brewing Company – where it all began, on August 26, 2025 from 5 pm – 7 pm.
Join the Committee for live music, ask questions, show your support by purchasing a T-shirt and/or enjoy Gold Dust throughout September.
“It’s a great time to learn more about a disease that has been affecting so many throughout our area and to see how these families maintain such incredible strength,” said Colleen Phillips, Vice President of Marketing, Service 1st Federal Credit Union. “It’s a special time and a great way to help us raise awareness and funds that are truly making a difference and staying right here in Pennsylvania.”
This initiative, which began locally in 2015, has raised over $125,000 to help ThinkBIG carry out its mission to lessen financial stress for families with children fighting the disease. Since ThinkBIG started in 2014, the organization has provided over $1.5 million in financial support to local families. Service 1st Federal Credit Union, Danville; Old Forge Brewing Company, Danville; Marley’s Brewery & Grille, Bloomsburg, Rusty Rail Brewing Company, Mifflinburg, Geisinger and Weis, along with numerous volunteers, have been working together as part of this Committee
Dr. Colby Wesner, Founder of ThinkBIG, shared, "ThinkBIG is always extremely grateful for the hard work and generosity of all the businesses and individuals who help plan events during September to bring awareness to pediatric cancer and also raise funds for our organization. It is these efforts that really help ThinkBIG continue to financially support pediatric cancer patients and their families in the region. I know these families are grateful for the support.”
The ThinkBIG Pediatric Cancer Fund reported that over 15,500 children in the United States are diagnosed with cancer every year. Research to help find a cure for pediatric cancer is severely underfunded. Some report that only 4% of available government funding goes to support pediatric cancer research. But, together, we can make a difference.
Gold Dust | A Special Tradition Continues
For the past few years Old Forge Brewing Company, Marley’s Brewery & Grille, and Rusty Rail Brewing Company, have collaborated on a special brew. Together, they have partnered to produce and distribute Gold Dust. This is not only helping to expand fundraising efforts but is also helping to expand awareness about this special cause.
A portion of the proceeds from this special pale ale sold during September 2025 will benefit ThinkBIG.
