Service 1st Donates $220K to 55 Local Charities

12/29/2023

(Danville, PA) - Service 1st Federal Credit Union presented 55 non-profits across the region with donations just in time for the holidays, as part of its Magic of the Season charity initiative.

Most presentations were held on Tuesday, December 19, in tandem with a member appreciation day. In all, $220,000 was awarded to local organizations, ranging from children’s causes and animal welfare organizations to libraries and fire departments. Overall, five charities in each of the credit union’s market areas received donations.

Mike Thomas, President/CEO, Service 1st, alluded that this would be the biggest year yet, during the holiday tree lighting on social media earlier this month.

“This was the best year ever and we couldn’t have done this without the support of our members,” Thomas said. “We live by the mantra of ‘People Helping People’, and this is one way we can put our desire to serve into action.”

Representatives from the organizations expressed appreciation for the donations. They shared that it filled funding gaps and will allow them to boost their efforts in the future.

“I can’t thank you all enough,” said Andrea Tufo, Executive Director, Donald Heiter Community Center in Lewisburg. “This donation will mean big changes for our programs.”

The Greater Susquehanna Valley YMCA in Sunbury indicated Service 1st’s donation put them over their annual campaign goal. Dwell Orphan Care in Williamsport will be able to provide important training to foster and adoptive parents as well as kinship caregivers.

“The donation will be put to good use as we continue to work diligently to bring hope and healing to children who come from hard places and support the families that love them,” said Founder and Director Jennifer Lake.
